The Inspirational Journey of Stevenson Clark: A Beacon of Faith and Music
The Arts | September 11, 2025
Stevenson Clark's contributions to gospel music have earned him the affectionate title of the “Little Prince of Gospel Music.”

In the heart of Mississippi, a talented soul was born and nurtured in the rich culture of Southern gospel music. Stevenson Clark, born in Aberdeen and raised in Hamilton, has devoted his life to serving God through the power of song. From an early age, he demonstrated an extraordinary passion for music, singing alongside his family in “The Clark Family.” This early exposure to performance laid the foundation for a life steeped in musical devotion and spiritual expression.

Stevenson's journey into music began at the tender age of two. By five, he had already made a mark by independently releasing a two-song CD that featured uplifting tracks like “I Believe There’s a Heaven Somewhere” and “God Is Able.” His early involvement in music was not just a pastime; it was a calling. He learned to play the piano and, by eighth grade, was directing choirs and teaching vocal lessons to adults. Such accomplishments were precursors to a bright future in gospel music.

His high school years were marked by significant achievements, including a scholarship to Ittawamba Junior College. However, Stevenson chose to follow a different path, joining the Grammy Award-winning Mississippi Mass Choir instead. This decision marked a pivotal moment in his career, as he toured nationally for five years, sharing the gospel through powerful performances.

In 1993, Stevenson relocated to Memphis, Tennessee, a city known for its vibrant music scene. Here, he continued to pursue his passion for gospel music while juggling various jobs, including working as a lab technician and hotel server. Despite these commitments, he remained deeply involved in church music, serving as the minister of music at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church and the musical director at Pilgrim Baptist Church.

His dedication and talent did not go unnoticed, and he recorded his debut solo CD, All the Praise, in Memphis. This album showcased his unique ability to blend traditional and contemporary gospel music styles, captivating audiences across the country. Stevenson's gift for songwriting and arranging further solidified his reputation in the gospel music community.

Stevenson Clark's contributions to gospel music have earned him the affectionate title of the “Little Prince of Gospel Music.” His spiritual lyrics and harmonious melodies resonate with listeners, bridging generational gaps and uniting communities in worship. Notable tracks such as “God Is Real,” “Help Me,” and “Stay with the Lord” exemplify his commitment to inspiring faith through music.

His most recent project, Goodness, reflects the depth of his artistry and unwavering faith. This album, like his previous works, is infused with messages of hope, love, and resilience, encouraging listeners to embrace the goodness of God in their lives.

In addition to his musical endeavors, Stevenson has made significant contributions to the gospel music industry through his role as the general manager and program director of POP GOSPEL RADIO. With over 16 years of experience in radio, he has played a crucial role in promoting gospel music and fostering a sense of community among listeners. The station's mantra, P.O.P. (Power of Prayer), encapsulates his vision of using music as a tool for spiritual upliftment.

At POP GOSPEL RADIO, Stevenson has created a platform that not only showcases gospel music but also provides a space for discussions on faith, spirituality, and community issues. His leadership has been instrumental in bringing together diverse voices and fostering a culture of encouragement and support.

As we reflect on Stevenson Clark's remarkable journey, we are reminded of the power of music to transform lives and bring people together. His unwavering commitment to serving God through song has touched countless hearts, and his leadership in gospel radio has amplified that impact.

On September 28, 2025, we invite you to join us for the POP GOSPEL RADIO Extravaganza, a celebration of faith, music, and community. The event will take place at Mt. Moriah East Missionary Baptist Church in Memphis, featuring the renowned Mississippi Mass Choir, which has returned with renewed passion after the loss of their beloved lead vocalist, Mama Mosie Burks. Joining them will be the uplifting Echoaires and, of course, Stevenson Clark himself, along with the Stevenson Clark Singers.

For a donation of $25, you can experience an evening filled with joy, inspiration, and a powerful sense of community spirit. This event is not just a concert; it’s a gathering of believers celebrating the transformative power of gospel music. Pastor Melvin Charles Smith will host the evening, ensuring that every moment is filled with uplifting messages and vibrant performances.

Stevenson Clark's journey from a young boy singing in Hamilton to a revered figure in gospel music serves as a testament to the power of faith and dedication. His accomplishments as a songwriter, performer, and leader in the gospel community are a source of inspiration for many.
