A Legacy of Leadership and Service

Since its founding in 1922 by seventeen trailblazing women, the Junior League of Memphis (JLM) has stood as a testament to the power, creativity, and resilience of women in our city. For more than a century, JLM has advanced women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training. Their mission is clear: to develop the potential of women and to serve as catalysts for lasting, positive change throughout the Mid-South.

Empowering Women, Uplifting Community

JLM is more than a volunteer organization—it’s a movement. Through its robust leadership training and hands-on service, JLM empowers women to become effective civic leaders, ready to tackle the city’s most pressing challenges. Members are encouraged to bring their unique perspectives and talents, fostering a culture where diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are at the forefront. The League’s vision is to create inclusive environments for learning and growth, ensuring every woman can be her best, authentic self.

Impact in Action

JLM’s impact can be felt across Memphis neighborhoods, from Binghampton to The Heights and Berclair. Through partnerships with other nonprofits and community organizations, the League supports outreach, education, and neighborhood revitalization efforts that touch hundreds of lives each week. Their programming strengthens families, supports children, and helps build a more equitable Memphis for all.

A History of Innovation and Advocacy

JLM’s legacy is rich with milestones. In 1924, the League worked with the blind to provide food, shelter, and clothing, playing a key role in establishing the Tennessee Welfare Commission’s first formal care for the blind. In 1933, they formed the Junior League of Memphis Garden Club, which remains active today. Over the decades, JLM has championed causes ranging from childhood nutrition and literacy to human trafficking prevention and environmental advocacy.

A Call to Action: Join, Donate, Partner

JLM invites women who are passionate about personal development and community service to join their ranks. Membership is open to women from all backgrounds who want to grow as leaders and make a tangible difference. The League also welcomes donations—every dollar goes directly to fund mission-driven programming and amplify their community impact. For businesses and organizations, JLM is always seeking new partnerships to expand their reach and effectiveness.

Why Junior League of Memphis Matters

The Junior League of Memphis is proof that when women lead, communities thrive. Their commitment to training, service, and advocacy has shaped Memphis for generations and continues to inspire new waves of change agents.
