On May 3, 2025, at 5 PM, the children of the Kingdom Ministry will host the 3rd Annual Joan E.W. Golden Scholarship Presentation at the Pentecostal Temple COGIC in Memphis, TN. This event is a heartfelt celebration of the extraordinary life and legacy of Joan E.W. Golden, a beloved figure in the Memphis community and a pioneering force at WLOK Radio, where she was affectionately known as "The Golden Girl."

Joan E.W. Golden was more than a radio personality—she was a voice for the voiceless, a beacon of hope, and a champion for education and empowerment. Her work at WLOK Radio was marked by her deep commitment to community service, uplifting spirits, and using her platform to highlight local issues, promote cultural events, and support charitable initiatives. Her passion for storytelling and her ability to connect with listeners made her a household name in Memphis, and her influence extended far beyond the airwaves.

Throughout her life, Joan was dedicated to creating opportunities for young people to succeed. She often spoke about the critical role of education in shaping lives and futures, and her belief in the power of knowledge inspired her to establish a scholarship fund to support students in their pursuit of higher education. This vision continues today, thanks to the dedication of her family, friends, and supporters who work tirelessly to keep her dream alive.

The Joan E.W. Golden Scholarship Presentation is more than just an event—it is a celebration of achievement and a testament to the enduring impact of Joan’s legacy. This year, ten exceptional students will receive scholarships, empowering them to further their education and pursue their dreams. The scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence, community involvement, and a demonstrated commitment to making a positive difference in the world.

The evening will feature inspiring speeches from community leaders, educators, and family members who knew Joan personally. These reflections will highlight Joan's unwavering dedication to her community and her belief in the transformative power of education. The atmosphere will be one of gratitude and inspiration as the community comes together to uplift the next generation of leaders.

This event would not be possible without the generous support of organizations and individuals who share Joan’s commitment to education and community service. Special thanks are extended to the American Legion, Milano, Dr. & Mrs. Paul Bierman, the MPD Foundation, Memphis Housing and Development, and the Memphis Ambassador Program for their invaluable contributions. Additionally, recognition is given to Tammara Shepard, whose vision and dedication ensure that Joan’s legacy continues to inspire and empower students.

Education is a powerful tool that opens doors and fosters personal growth. For the students receiving scholarships this year, these funds will help ease the financial challenges of higher education, allowing them to focus on their studies and pursue their aspirations—whether in education, healthcare, engineering, the arts, or beyond. These young scholars represent the bright future of our community.

Joan E.W. Golden believed in the limitless potential of every student, and through this scholarship program, her spirit lives on. By investing in education, we honor Joan’s memory and nurture the leaders of tomorrow who will continue to make a positive impact in our society.

As we gather on May 3, 2025, at Pentecostal Temple COGIC, we celebrate the life and legacy of Joan E.W. Golden—a true champion for education and community empowerment. Together, we honor her memory by uplifting ten deserving students who will receive scholarships in her name, reminding us all of the lasting impact one individual can have and the importance of supporting and investing in our youth.
